Astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are on their way back to Earth

BACK TO EARTH

WHAT: Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams are on their way back to Earth. A successful SpaceX mission to the International Space Station (ISS) delivered four astronauts, swapping the crew and bringing the two home.

WHEN: The two are expected to return on March 18, Tuesday evening (GMT), sometime late in the night in India, according to NASA.

THE REPLACEMENTS: NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Takuya Onishi, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Kirill Peskov are now at the ISS.

WHY: Astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore have been stuck on ISS for nine months after their Boeing Starliner spacecraft had technical issues, and was unfit to return.

THE MISSION: NASA’s SpaceX Crew-10 mission will test material flammability, lunar navigation, and spaceflight’s effects on the body. They will also engage with students via ISS Ham Radio.
